Kate Middleton wore the Alexander McQueen Obsession Talisman Print dress to Wimbledon in July 2016. The dress was a bespoke version of label’s Pre-Fall 2016 collection dress, and featured a detailed pattern that created a panel-style appearance with a nipped-in waist and A-line skirt.
Sarah Burton’s collections for Alexander McQueen often have historical references and the 2016 Autumn/Winter collection was no exception. The ‘Obsession’ talisman print – which is steeped in motifs like butterflies, clocks, Fabergé eggs, moths, flowers, hummingbirds, as well as the label’s trademark skulls – was described by Sarah as “thinking about a woman’s obsession with the possessions she treasures, like her jewelry and makeup, and the things she collects”. The idea for the print came about after Burton had spent time at London’s Sir John Soane’s Museum, where she was inspired by the objects that explorers, like Charles Darwin, collected on their voyages.
