1959 Nuova Era in Rivista di Wrestling Firmato Haystacks Calhoun Frank Scarpa+3 JSA

You are looking at a soft cover picture book titled “The GREAT NEW ERA IN WRESTLING PRESENTS TV STARS OF 1959 A PARADE OF CHAMPIONS VOL. II”  The picture book contains full page white bordered pics of the greatest wrestlers of the day.  This particular copy has been autographed during the era by five of the wrestlers depicted, including the World Champion Killer Kowlaski (d.2008), Haystacks Calhoun (d.1989), Don Leo Jonathan (d.2018), Pepper Gomez (d.2004), and Frankie Scarpa (d.1969).  JSA has provided a full letter-style authentication for this item.

The book measures approximately 12 1/4″ x 9 1/2″.  21 pages of pics and captions fill the space between the covers.  In addition to the five autographed pics, the book includes shots of Yukon Eric, Edouard Carpentier, June Byers, Betty Hawkins, Wilbur Snyder, Cowboy Bob Ellis, the Brunetti Brothers, Rugged Angelo Poffo, Lou Thesz, Dick the Bruiser, The Magnificent Bruiser Brothers, Antonio Rocca, Dandy Dan Miller, Pat O’Connor, Luther Lindsay and Sam Menacker.  Several of the pics may be recognizable as they are the same shots used for the popular Exhibit cards of the era.  

Scarpa remains (to my knowledge) the only champion to have died in the ring while champion, suffering a heart attack on January 25, 1969.

The Scarpa and Gomez autographs are on back to back pages, but all others are separate from one another.

The pub appears as if it had been taken by an eager grapher to quite a few matches and displays a decent amount of folds, dings, and wear.
